Obituary: Michael Edel, 84, Scottville.

Michael Edward Edel, 84, of Scottville died Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Mercy Health Partners in Muskegon.  Mike was born on March 17, 1933 in Free Soil, the son of Bernard and Victoria (Bartz) Edel.  On May 2, 1953 he married Mary E. Jansen, and she preceded him in death on December 24, 1983.  Mike later married Darlaine M. (Pierce) Allen at the home of The Rev. John Christiansen, and they enjoyed 32 years together.  In addition to his first wife Mary, Mike was also preceded in death by his daughter Donna Isham on September 11, 2016, his parents, his sister Dorothy Carter, and his brother Ralph Edel.

In Mike’s early years he worked for Park Dairy (House of Flavors) in Ludington.  In 1960 he moved to Muskegon and worked for Michigan Milk Producers picking up milk from local farms in the Scottville and Ludington areas.  He also drove transports to Ovid for processing.  Late in the 1960s he worked for Gulf Oil driving transports and delivering gasoline to stations throughout the state.  In 1970, Mike purchased the Walter Groth farm which he operated for over thirty years until his retirement.

Mike will be greatly missed by his wife Darlaine, his sons: Michael Jr. and wife Laurie of Free Soil, Bruce and wife Brenda; and Steve and wife Roberta all of Scottville; his stepsons: Tim, Richard, and Donald Allen, all of Muskegon; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his brothers: Bud Roskoski of Manistee, Ray Edel and wife Betty of Scottville; his sisters Martha Jansen of Scottville, Marie Struve of Free Soil, and Anna Arsnoe of Ludington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Gathering of Friends and Family celebrating Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, April 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Stephens Funeral Home in Scottville.  Burial will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery.  Those who wish to remember Mike with a memorial donation are asked to consider Second Chance Humane Society.
