Donald J. McInnis, 89, of Titusville, Florida, died March 2, 2017 at Hospice of St. Francis in Titusville.
Donald was born on January 13, 1928 in McMillan, Michigan to the late Donald (Sr.) and Delta McInnis. He served as a Navy Corpsman during World War II and was discharged on January 9, 1948 with an honorable discharge.  He was assigned to a Marine unit whose primary responsibility was to recover downed pilots.  He married the love of his life, Marjorie E. Hesslund on November 3, 1951 who preceded him in death on September 20, 2016. Through that nearly 65 years of marriage they continuously served their community and church, while raising their three children in a Christian home.  Donald served as a Detroit Police Officer, then moved to Ludington in the 1950s where he owned two businesses and enjoyed selling real estate.  Donald was elected a Mason County commissioner and served as chairman.  He retired to Titusville, Florida in 1987 where he continued to teach Sunday school at his church, served on several board positions over the years, was a school crossing guard for the Titusville Police Department for 18 years and liked to work on home projects.  Donald had a lifelong passion for all things hunting and fishing.  In his youth, he trapped fur bearing animals and earned enough to pay for his first year of college.
Donald is survived by his siblings: Mickey Rivard, Margaret (Zen) Hanger, Dave (Janet) McInnis, Tom (Sandy) McInnis, and Marion McInnis; his three children: Jim (Terri) McInnis of Ludington, Linda (Rick) Miedema of Titusville, Florida, and Susan (Bill) Cook of Lexington, Kentucky; his grandchildren: Andrea McInnis, Michael (Christie) McInnis, Matthew (Robin) McInnis, Rick (Lori) Miedema, Michelle (Jacob) Maseman, DJ (Brittany) Miedema, Sarah (Bryan) Gnau, Ryan (Traci) Cook; and his great-grandchildren Ainsley, Maxwell, Brenna, Mason, Mia, Sidney, and Gwen.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Marjorie and his brother Gary.
At his request, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will occur at a later date at First Baptist Church of Mims, Florida.
