SCOTTVILLE — A group of local women have made 135 fabric stockings in order to give to area children Saturday during Christmas celebrations in downtown Scottville. Kids can pick up the stockings at the Scottville Area Senior Center, 140 S. Main St., and then take them to area businesses to be filled with goodies; there are over 20 businesses participating.

The stockings are part of the Scottville Christmas celebration which starts at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast with Santa at the North Country Cafe, 110 N. Main Street, until 11:30 a.m. A kids party will be held at the Scottville Optimist Center from 1 to 3 p.m.

The stockings were made by local quilting groups Sandy’s Quilting Friends and the Country Quilters.

“Each stocking is different and we will let the children choose a stocking,” said Marcia Visscher, director of the senior center. “The idea is to get families into the downtown businesses to see what Scottville has to offer. We will have hot chocolate and cookies here at the center.

Several of the businesses will be represented at the senior center while other stores that are open will have their gifts at that site.

The Scottville Christmas tree lighting takes place at 5:15 p.m. at the downtown pocket park (also known as the mall).
