HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — Two hunters from Grand Rapids are safe this morning after their boat took on water in Hamlin Lake. At 5:40 a.m. Sunday, 911 was called by one of the hunters. They had gone out in the lake to duck hunt when their boat started taking on water. According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, they then beached the boat but were unsure where they were.
Sheriff deputies eventually located the two in a small cove outside the park and then dispatched Hamlin Township Fire Department for its boat, but the area was too shallow. Firefighters then assisted with walking the hunters back to the state park boat launch.
Cole said the two were cold and wet but were uninjured.
Life EMS also responded to the scene.
