Lois Ann (Barnard) Lemcke, 67, longtime resident of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 22, 2016. Lois was born on February 18, 1949 in Saginaw to Harry and Ella Barnard. During the first year of her life, the family moved Lois and her older brother, Roger, to Scottville where she was raised until graduating from Mason County Central High School. Lois furthered her education at Ferris State College before earning her teaching certificate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Central Michigan University. She began her teaching career with Farwell Area Schools in 1971 and concluded it at CMU in 2012. In that span of 41 years, Lois touched and inspired the lives of countless young people. Her passion for bringing about learning in children and developing equally passionate future teachers at the college level knew no boundaries.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Roger.  She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Bill; sons Eric Lemcke (Karla) of Seattle, and Marc Lemcke of Nashville, Tenn.; grandsons: Jeremy and Justin Lemcke of Nashville; nieces: Sara Barnard of Mt. Pleasant and Hilary Barnard of Lansing; and the light of her life, grandniece Marcilyn Barnard of Mt. Pleasant.

Lois was a kind, giving, caring, loving person. Her thoughtfulness for others was reflected each and every day and will be a lasting tribute to her spirit. Her devotion to expressing that caring personality was especially evident in her commitment to regularly sending greeting cards for all occasions.

A service celebrating Lois’ life will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 27 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Dana Hendershot officiating. Friends may meet with her family for a time of visitation on Monday, September 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rowley Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant and on Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until the start of the service at the church.   Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28 at the Brookside Cemetery in Scottville with Rev. James Schroeder presiding. A luncheon will follow at Our Savior Lutheran Church also in Scottville.
