The Mason County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation of the recent rash of break-ins throughout the county, including break-ins at the King Funeral Home and Hamlin Grocery, both located on North Jebavy Drive.

break-in suspect 1A minivan was stolen from King Funeral Home early Tuesday morning, Sept. 13, but it was recovered during the break-in investigation at Hamlin Grocery, Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole said. Tobacco and alcohol were stolen from the grocery store, and nothing else was taken from the funeral home besides the minivan, he said. The intruder crawled through a window to gain access to both buildings.

The sheriff’s office is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a “person of interest” allegedly involved the break-ins that occurred Monday night, Sept. 12, and early Tuesday morning. The sheriff’s office a has name of a suspect, but it is not releasing the person’s name right now, Cole said.

The individual is described as a white male with several tattoos on his arms.

Two images of the possible suspect were obtained from security cameras at two of the crime scenes, which the sheriff’s office released to the media Tuesday. The photo on the front porch was taken in the Walhalla area, Cole said. The suspect was not able to gain access to the home at that location.

So far, the sheriff’s office has received “better than a dozen” tips from the public following the release of the crime scene photos, he said. “We are thankful to the public for stepping up and helping.”
