MARILLA TOWNSHIP (Manistee County) — A 25-year-old Scottville man died following a two vehicle crash at the intersection of 13-Mile and Marilla roads Sunday about noon.

Wesley Skinner was a passenger in a minivan that was driven by a 24-year-old Scottville woman. The minivan was struck by a pickup truck, driven by a 20-year-old Hastings man. According to Manistee County Sheriff Dale Kowalkowski, the pickup was southbound on Marilla Road and failed to stop for a stop sign at 13-Mile Road.

Skinner was pronounced dead at the scene. It is believed that he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, Kowalkowski said. The driver and additional passengers in the van were transported to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup and two occupants were uninjured in the crash. The investigation indicates that the driver of the truck was distracted at the time of the crash, Kowalkowski said.  Alcohol and speed are not believed to be a factor.

Skinner was a 2009 graduate of Mason County Central High School. His classmates started a Go Fund Me page to help his family with expenses. According to the page, he was the father of two children and was engaged to be married in two weeks.

The Manistee County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Michigan State Police, Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Department of Public Safety, West Shore Medical Center, Thompsonville Ambulance, and Cleon Township Fire.
