VICTORY TOWNSHIP — The Ludington and Scottville Area Chamber of Commerce held a record-attending Business After Hours event Wednesday night at Larsen’s Landscape and Lawn Care, 3091 N. US 31. Over 170 people attended the event.

“Normally we have about 75 to 100 people attend a Business After Hours event,” said Polly Myer, finance and membership services director at the chamber.

The event was co-sponsored by Larsen’s and Smith & Eddy Insurance.

“We were just thrilled to have such a great attendance,” said Scott Smith, president of Smith & Eddy. “This event was put on by two Scottville area based businesses and the tremendous attendance by the chamber members and guests just shows that this county is committed to Scottville and its success.”

The event took place at the outdoor kitchen and dining patio/show area at Larsen’s. “This place that Bruce and Karen Larsen have here is just a great summer setting and makes for a very festive atmosphere,” Smith said, giving credit to Karen Larsen and Patty Smith of Smith & Eddy for planning the event.

“All of our Business After Hours are great events,” said Kathy Maclean, president and CEO of the chamber. “But, this particular event seems to be very popular. One of the keys is that both the sponsoring businesses invite customers to attend, which is something we encourage every sponsoring business to do. So, this event is not only a chamber function, it is an opportunity for the sponsoring businesses to thank their customers.”

The western-themed event also featured live music from Jimmy Dodson, catered appetizers, and draft beer samples compliments of Ludington Beverage Company.

“This was the perfect way to celebrate the end of summer and for our businesses to come together,” Maclean said. “It was also a great way to celebrate Mason County.”

Business After Hours is typically held the fourth Wednesday of the month and is $5 for chamber members and $10 for non members. The public is invited.  The next business after hours event will be held at the Scottville Optimist Center on Wednesday, Sept. 28. It will be sponsored by several Scottville area businesses.
