LUDINGTON — Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital today announced that patients will begin receiving a single streamlined bill that bundles what had previously been multiple statements into one, making it easier for people to understand their bills. The new statements will start going out to patients next week.

“Health care billing can be confusing, but it doesn’t have to be, and our goal at Spectrum Health is to offer the best possible experience for our patients and their families,” said Randy Stasik, interim president for Ludington Hospital.

“We can make a significant difference by improving the payment process for our patients and their families. By consolidating patient balances from our various billing systems into one patient statement, we believe we can provide an enhanced level of care, technology, accountability and privacy for the patients we serve.”

Essentially, the new statement combines the Spectrum Health Hospital Group and Spectrum Health Medical Group bills into one statement. Patients will now see a combined bill for Spectrum Health facility, professional, home health and hospice charges. The new billing system is the result of a collaborative effort with the Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFACs) at Ludington and other Spectrum Health hospitals.

Patients will still receive separate bills from independent care providers including, for Ludington Hospital patients, but not limited to: Pere Marquette Emergency Physicians, iNDIGO Health Partners (hospitalists serving Ludington Hospital), Pere Marquette Medical Imaging, and Anesthesiology Associates of West Michigan.

Auto-pay patients need to re-enroll

To protect patient privacy, encryption ensures that staff is not able to see any patient credit card or banking information. As a result, the hospital cannot enter a patient’s credit card or banking information into its new financial billing system. Patients who have an auto payment activated on their current account should call 844.879.6180 and re-enroll in the auto payment option. Their credit card or banking information will also be encrypted in the new financial system.

Through the one patient statement billing system, patients can pay online, by going to spectrumhealth.org/payyourbill and clicking on “Pay Bill.”

Alternatively, patients can call 844.879.6180, where a billing agent can be reached Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. An automated system is available after these hours.

Patients can also mail payments to Spectrum Health, PO Box 88087, Chicago, IL 60680-1087.
