VICTORY TOWNSHIP — The West Shore Community College Theater Department and Performing Arts Series announce auditions for “Godspell,” August 28, 29, 6 to 9 p.m., in the college’s Center Stage Theater.

“Godspell” was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz and it took the world by storm.

Led by the international hit, “Day By Day,” Godspell features a parade of beloved songs including “Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” “All For The Best,” “All Good Gifts,” “Turn Back, O Man” and “By My Side.”

Audition participants are encouraged to listen to the new Broadway cast recording of “Godspell” available on YouTube to familiarize themselves with the music prior to the audition.

Available roles for this production are Jesus, Judas (John the Baptist), Telly, Nick, George, Anna Maria, Lindsay, Uzo, Morgan, and Celisse.

“I’m thrilled to be back directing WSCC’s musical production of ‘Godspell’ this year. At auditions, we will be looking for men and women who are confident singers, have a great ear for harmony, and are willing to have fun and take chances on stage,” says Director Michelle Kiessel.

Kiessel adds, “The music and message in this show are powerful and accessible.

The goal will be for audiences to leave the theater having been entertained and feeling inspired to choose kindness and acceptance in their daily lives.”

In addition to Kiessel, the production team includes Vocal Coach Elliot Plummer, Music Director/Co-producer Ted Malt, Set Designer/Co-Producer Mike “Mik” Mikula, Audio Engineers Adam Knudsen and Matt Crescenzi, and Lighting Engineer Amanda Collene.

The musical will be staged on Nov. 4, 5, 11, and 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 6 and 13 at 2 p.m. in the Center Stage Theater.
