UPDATED: BRANCH TWP. — A motorcyclist was injured during a two vehicle crash on US 10 in front of the Emerson Lake Inn Friday about 5:50 p.m.

The crash occurred when a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling east on US 10 attempted to turn left into the parking lot of the restaurant. The vehicle turned in front of a westbound Honda motorcycle, which struck the passenger side of the truck, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

The motorcyclist, whose age and town of residence was not immediately available at the scene, was taken by ambulance to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital and later flown by AeroMed helicopter to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids with serious injuries. The truck passenger sustained minor injuries while the drive of the truck was uninjured. A witness, who rendered aid, said the motorcyclist was not from the area.

Responding to the scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Branch Township Fire Department, Custer Township Fire Department, Michigan Department of Natural Resources law enforcement, and Life EMS. Pere Marquette Township Fire Department’s ladder truck was called to assist with the investigation. The crash shut down US 10 between Walhalla and Branch roads. It is being investigated.

Editor’s note: MCP’s original posting stated the witness had said the motorcycle pulled out of the restaurant parking lot.
