Susan Anice Freyer, 61, of Ludington, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, July 28, 2016 at home, after a 4 year long battle with cancer. She was born on December 27, 1954, in Elgin, Illinois, to Gerald and Barbara Lindberg. Susan graduated high school in Florissant, Missouri and went on to attend Illinois State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in English. In 1983 she joined the Navy, and was stationed first in Holy Loch, Scotland, on the USS Hunley, where she was among the first group of women ever assigned to that ship. Susan was then stationed in Norfolk, Virginia on the USS Emory S. Land, where she met and married her husband Jonathan E. Freyer on January 11, 1987.  Susan enjoyed reading, bird watching, scrapbooking, gardening, travelling with her husband, and being with her family and grandchildren. She was a member of the local EU chapter of PEO.

Susan is survived by her husband, Jonathan Freyer; her three daughters: Emily (Freyer) Spliedt, Harriet (Freyer) Johnson, and Martha Freyer; her three beloved grandchildren: Orion and Otto Spliedt, and Vienna Johnson; her mother, Barbara Lindberg; and her three siblings: Beth (Lindberg) Zimmerman, Pete Lindberg and Chris Lindberg. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Lindberg.

A time of visitation for family and friends of Susan will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at King Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Ludington.  The family requests that any memorials be directed to PEO, EU Chapter, c/o Linda Ochs, 2040 W.
