Motorcycle crash victim identified.

GRANT TOWNSHIP — Gerald Jerome Niemiec, 54, of Ludington died Friday afternoon following a single vehicle crash on US 31 north of Freeman Road. 

The crash occurred when Niemiec’s southbound 1969 Harley Davidson Spirit three-wheeled motorcycle ran off the right side of the road, went through a ditch and struck a house at 7953 N. US 31.
It was discovered upon arrival of medical personnel the driver, and lone occupant of the cycle, had sustained fatal injuries, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

Niemiec was wearing a helmet and neither speed nor alcohol appears to have been factors in the crash. It is believed a medical condition may have contributed to the driver running off the road.
The case remains open by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

Responding to the scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Grant Township Fire Dept., Life EMS. and the Mason County Medical Examiner.
