SCOTTVILLE — The Knabenmusik St. Gallen band from Switzerland will be performing Wednesday, July 20 at the Scottville Clown Band beginning at 7 p.m. The group is visiting the United States and traveling around the Midwest, performing in several communities and events. The Scottville visit has been arranged through Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp by Mason County Central band director Tom Thomas.

Band members are in need of a place to stay, however, during their visit, beginning Tuesday, July 19 through July 21. Anyone able to accommodate the musicians may contact Thomas at 231-794-8382 or email tomtube@hotmail.com.

The Knabenmusik was founded in 1948 and presided since March, 2008 by Markus Straub. The overall musical director is Michael Wachter, the drum line conductor is Daniel Kern and the majorettes administration is Caroline Mazenauer. The Junior Band (precursor orchestra) is led by Christian Sturzenegger. The drum line was created in 1950 and majorettes joined the group in 1970.

Though knabenmusik translates into English as “boys band” the group now also includes female members. The association currently consists of around 120 young musicians, majorettes and drummers. In organizational terms, the association is led by a board of parents and active young people. In successful cooperation with the local music school which recruits musicians for the “Junior Band” and then, later they move into a band called “mini-band”.
