WSCC offering College for Kids.

wscc logoVICTORY TOWNSHIP — West Shore Community College will be hosting College for Kids 2016, August 1 – 5.

The five-day College for Kids is a hands-on opportunity to explore higher education through arts, sciences, communications and recreation in a day-camp atmosphere on the college campus and features 20 plus action-packed learning adventures designed for motivated learners grades 4 – 8.

“Through College for Kids, students can be exposed to potential careers, expand their knowledge, and enjoy hands-on learning under the guidance of experienced educators,” said Crystal Young, director of the Business Opportunity Center.

Some of the courses and activities include electronics, Zen tangle art, digital photography, arts and crafts, pond ecology, wilderness survival, build a business, introduction to philosophy, game programming, geocaching, a variety of recreational activities, and more.

Full-day, week-long participants receive two, three-hour courses, and a College for Kids t-shirt for $130.  Half-day week-long participants receive one, three- hour course, and a t-shirt for $75. Some scholarships are available by contacting Cara Mitchell, or visiting the college’s tent at upcoming Friday Night Live events.

Students should bring a sack lunch or may purchase, in advance, lunch at the Beans & Bread Café from a pre-established menu. To view the menu, visit the college web site and click on College for Kids.

To accommodate the schedule of working parents, students may be dropped off at the Tech Center at 8:30 a.m.and should be picked up at the same location no later than 4 p.m.

Registration for College for Kids starts July 11, and early registration is suggested as most courses are limited to 15 participants.
