FREE SOIL — Three people were injured and a dog died following a single vehicle crash in the village Tuesday afternoon. The crash occurred when the Chevrolet Trail Blazer, driven by a 38-year-old Manistee woman was traveling west on Michigan Street. The vehicle entered the curves just to the east of the village limits about 2:40 p.m. and the vehicle’s front passenger side tire slipped off the roadway, according to Mason County Sheriff Dept. Kyle Boyd. The vehicle then entered a ditch and crashed against a tree, causing minor injuries to the driver and her two children, ages 14 and 10. The family dog sustained a fatal head injury, Boyd said, adding that he attempted to revive the canine.

The three people were transported to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital by ambulance.

Responding to the scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Free Soil/Meade Fire Department and Life EMS ambulance.
