Steven (Okie) Eschels, 59, of Homestead, Florida passed away suddenly on Friday, May 27, 2016.  He was born on November 16, 1956 in Ludington, the son of Arno and Shirley Eschels.

Okie was an avid Detroit Tigers, Red Wings and Lions fan and he enjoyed making bets with his family on pretty much any sporting event.  He was a skilled finishing carpenter, who owned and operated A & E Interior Millwork & Trim Installation in Homestead for many years.  Okie enjoyed riding his Harley, taking his dogs Dixie and Josie to the park during their life and laughing with family and friends.

Okie will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 15 years, Robin (Diaz) Eschels, his mom Shirley A. Eschels of Ludington, his brother Jeff (Ralph) and Kristi (Etherton) Eschels, along with his nephew, John Michael (JM), of Winter Park, Florida, his brother Dan (Moe) and Donna (DeLeon) Eschels of Austin, Texas, his sister Sara (Sis) Eschels of Grand Rapids, and his step-son Antonio Bernard.  Okie was preceded in death by his father, Arno Eschels, his uncle, Erv Eschels, and his best friend and partner Billy Ammon of Homestead, Florida who welcomed him into Heaven where they were saving his seat at the setback table (hope he brought the quarters and dimes).

Graveside services will be held for Okie at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 25 at South Victory Cemetery.  Afterward his family will return to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Scottville, beginning at noon for a luncheon and time of celebration of Okie’s life.  Memorial contributions may be made in Okie’s memory to the VFW Post 4127, 601 NE 2nd Rd, Homestead, FL 33030 or to Our Savior Lutheran Church, PO Box 66, Scottville, MI 49454.  Please visit Okie’s personal memory page at www.wymanfuneralservice.com to leave a tribute of Okie for his family or to light a candle in his memory.
