The Mason County Allied Veterans Council will hold a Memorial Day parade Monday, May 30 in Ludington. The parade begins at the Mason County Courthouse at 10:15 a.m. and will end at the War Memorial in Stearns Park, along Lakeshore Drive. It will showcase area veterans.A memorial service will follow.

The Rev Domingo “Mick” Shriver will be the keynote speaker of the memorial service. Shriver served in the Army. He serves as pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Grace Episcopal Church. He is involved in the American Legion, American Legion Riders and the Fin & Feather Club, among other activities.

The Rev. Paul Bromley of United Methodist Church of Ludington will serve as chaplain of the day. Colleen Unsal will sing “God Bless America” and the Ludington High School band will perform the “Star Spangled Banner”, a salute to the Armed Forces and “Taps.”

Traditionally, the Custer VFW also holds a ceremony at 9 a.m. at Mason County Central High School, followed by a service at Riverside Cemetery on South Custer Road, Custer Township and then Maple Grove Cemetery on East Free Soil Road in Free Soil Township and the Michigan State Police Trooper Paul Butterfield memorial along North Custer Road in Free Soil Township.

The council asks that flags fly at half-staff until noon on Memorial Day.
