wscc nursingVICTORY TOWNSHIP — Twelve local residents have recently completed a seven-week certified nurse aid (CNA) course in a first of a kind collaborative effort.  The course was conducted in partnership with Newago County Medical Care Facility, Michigan Works West Central, and West Shore Community College.

The class was designed to meet a local employment need for certified nurse aids and give students experience with a college level course, while accommodating and coordinating schedules at a local medical care facility.

“We are so excited to have successfully executed a CNA course in an off sight location,” stated Ruth Freebury, WSCC director of nursing.  “As opportunities arise in the future, we will continue to explore partnerships and locations to support students.”

Anyone interested in joining future CNA classes to be held in Newaygo County, contact Sarah Kirby at 231-548-0729.

West Shore Community College also offers classes, certificates, and degrees for medical coding, business administration, nursing, radiology and respiratory therapy.

Registration for the college’s summer and fall semesters is open for first-time, returning, and guest students and will continue to the first week of each term’s classes.

The summer semester runs from June 6 through July 29. The fall semester begins August 29 and ends December 16.
