HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — Ludington businesswoman Julie Payment died early this morning  at her home on Hamlin Lake. Julie, along with her husband Mike, owned Sportsman’s Restaurant and Irish Pub in downtown Ludington. She was active in many downtown Ludington activities, serving on several committees and being involved with many events. In the late ‘80s Julie served as president of the Ludington Area Jaycees. Julie was also the circulation manager of the Ludington Daily News.

Julie was 58-years-old and lived in Mason County all of her life.

“I loved having the privilege of knowing Julie Payment. She was one of a kind,” said Becky Riggs on Facebook. “She was one of the most generous people I’ve known. My heart misses her already.”

“She was a pillar of the Ludington community, a smiling, friendly, welcoming face,” said Teri Wilson, also on Facebook. “She was a joyful spirit who will be missed more than words can say.”

“What a huge loss to our community,” said Lexi Alvesteffer.

“She was very much a ‘get it done’ kind of person,” said Monty Ashton (aka Fremont John). “She was very influential  in the Ludington Jaycees and she took over the Sportsman’s Bar and really made it what it is today. The entire Ludington community will feel this loss.”
