March 9, 2016

VICTORY TOWNSHIP — The West Shore Community College Student Senate, the Academic Projects Team and Haven are sponsoring an historical lecture and a screening of the film “The Imitation Game.”

The film will be shown on Wed., March 16, at 2 p.m. and on Mon., March 21, at 7 p.m., the College will welcome Dr. Colin R. Johnson who will present a lecture titled, “The Triumphs and Tragedies of LGBT History.”

Both the film and lecture will take place in the Center Stage Theater.

Dr. Johnson is the director of graduate studies in the Gender Studies Department at Indiana University – Bloomington.  His lecture will address the history of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender movement in America.

The film and lecture have been scheduled as a follow-up to the College’s play production of “Breaking the Code” which tells the story of mathematician Alan Turing’s accomplishments during World War II and later his arrest and suicide as a result of being a gay man in an unforgiving time in history.

“The Imitation Game” is a 2014 American historical drama thriller film that is loosely based on the biography “Alan Turing: The Enigma” by Andrew Hodges and previously adapted as the stage play and BBC drama “Breaking the Code.”

The college invites the community to attend and tickets are not required for either event.

The two events are presented through the collaboration of the Academic Projects Team, which brings interdisciplinary programming to the College, the Student Senate who serve as the student voice on the campus, and Haven, an organization for LGBTQ+ students and their allies.
