Obituary: Deedra Thurow, 72, Scottville.

Deedra Lynn (Weinert) Thurow, 72 of Scottville passed away on October 29, 2015 at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital.

Deedra was born on February 22, 1943 in Ludington to the late Ralph and Esther (Parker) Weinert. She attended Ludington High School graduating in 1961 and then moving on to Central Michigan University where she received her Master’s Degree.

On June 5, 1965 Deedra married Robert Joseph Thurow at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ludington. Deedra was an elementary school teacher and she taught at Franklin Elementary School in Ludington from 1965 until 1968 when her first child was born. After that time she raised her children and was a wonderful homemaker during the period that her children were growing up. She returned to teaching at Mason County Central in 1986 until her retirement in 2004.

Deedra was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Lutherans Women Groups, PTA, 4-H, Soil Conservation, Vacation Bible School and many other groups in the community. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, spending time with her wonderful grandchildren and family, spending winters in Florida, listening to her husband’s stories, and entertaining all the beloved friends that would visit the farm.

Deedra is survived by her husband, Robert Thurow; sons, Chris (Stephanie) Thurow, Greg (Nadine) Thurow; daughter, Jillyn (Ken Kibby) May; grandchildren, Trent, Brooke, Tyler, Hannah, Isabella, Braylin, and Bryce Thurow and Zachary and Allison May; brothers, Ted Weinert, Dick (Chris) Weinert, Brian (Denise) Weinert; sister, Barbara (Weinert) Harte; sisters-in-law, Audrey (Ray) Keith, Luellen Dewall; brother-in-law, Roger (lela) Thurow along with several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ranold and Gen Thurow; sister-in-law, Jennifer Weinert.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday November 6, 2015 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Scottville with Reverend James Schroeder officiating. The family will receive guests for visitation one hour prior to the services and also on Thursday November 5, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington.
