LUDINGTON — On Nov. 11, 1940, one of the worst storms of recorded Great Lakes history struck Lake Michigan, with the most destruction between the Sable points. Known as the Armistice Day Storm, over 140 people died and over 10 ships sank or ran aground.
On Oct. 17, 2015 at 7 p.m., the West Michigan Underwater Preserve will host a memorial event in obseration of the 75th anniversary of the storm. The free program will take place at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts, 107 N. Harrison St.
Presenters will include Ric Mixter, a shipwreck historian, author and diver along with Valerie Van Heest, a maritime historian, author, and diver. The two will tell stories with word and video of these events during the program.
