Salvation Army giving away backpacks, school supplies.

LUDINGTON – Beginning Monday, August 31, 2015, The Salvation Army of Ludington will be giving away backpacks and other grade-appropriate school supplies for school-aged children from Mason and Oceana counties at the Ludington Corps Community Center, 114 East Melendy Street. The distribution begins Monday, August 31 and will continue Tuesday, Wednesday,  and Friday, September 4 or as long as supplies last. Hours for the distribution are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 1 to 3 p.m.

Applicants can register at the Ludington Corps Community Center during distribution and must have a valid picture ID for themselves, a valid ID for their children (birth certificate or social security card) and proof of residency in Mason or Oceana counties (utility bill or welcome letter from a school).  No advance registration to participate is required. Individuals with questions regarding the program may call the Ludington Corps Community Center at 231.843.3711.

“The Salvation Army certainly values the benefit of a good education. The “Backpack Giveaway” program will help to prepare children in need from our area to be ready for the new school year,” said Captain Timothy McPherson, Ludington’s Corps Officer. “We want to thank the public and especially the Church Women United organization for their generous donation of backpacks and school supplies,” McPherson added.
