FREE SOIL TOWNSHIP — The Custer VFW Gold Bar Post paid tribute Monday morning to those who sacrificed their lives in the service of the United States. Services began at Mason County Central High School, then Brookside Cemetery in Scottville, Riverside Cemetery in Custer Township, Free Soil Township Cemetery and then at the Michigan State Police Trooper Paul Butterfield roadside memorial on Custer Road. Butterfield was killed in service to the State of Michigan but was also a veteran of the United States military.
