UPDATED: FREE SOIL — A 37-year-old Kent City man working for Kent Power was electrocuted while working on power lines at the intersection of Hoague and Darr roads Thursday afternoon. Grant Twp. and Free Soil/Meade fire departments, Life EMS, West Shore Medical Center EMS and Mason County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene.

The victim apparently had been working on a power line when the accident happened and his fellow workers brought him down to the ground. Personnel said he appeared to have suffered from second to third degree burns. Initial dispatch information stated the man was unresponsive. Upon arrival, rescue personnel reported he was responsive, however.

The man was taken to West Shore Medical Center in Manistee and was scheduled to be flown out by AeroMed air ambulance to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

The power company trucks on scene were marked Kent Power and Great Lakes Energy. It appeared that several linemen had been working in the area replacing utility poles along Hoague Road.

We will post more information when it comes available.
