LUDINGTON — Zach Mitchell has basically grown up in the furniture business. His family owns two furniture stores in the greater St. Louis, Missouri area. When Zach and his wife, Cara, chose to move to Ludington, Cara’s hometown, Zach decided to continue the family tradition and sell furniture.

Mattress Max, located at 115 W. Ludington Ave., opened in late January of this year.

“It’s been a great experience,” Zach says. “I really looked around for the perfect location. Being downtown just makes sense. I think it brings us closer to the community. There’s a great movement in this time and a great energy and I wanted to be part of that.”

Mattress Max sells new furniture from top brands.

“One of our advantages is that my family owns larger stores. This allows us to sell at 20 to 50 percent less than many other retail outlets,” Zach says, adding that business has been good this winter and he expects it to increase in the summer.

Zach said he and Cara look forward to being involved in the community.

“We wanted to raise our kids in a small town,” Zach said. “Ludington has just been great. you couldn’t ask for better schools. Cara grew up here and we wanted to be closer to her family.”
