LUDINGTON — The Ludington Area Convention and Visitors Bureau is planning to hold three bonfires at Stearns Park beach this summer. A bonfire on the beach was held in early July 2014 as part of the Harbor Festival.

“Because the bonfire was one of the successful components of Harbor Festival, the CVB would like to take that component and replicate it over the summer season on three evenings,” Brandy Henderson, executive director/CEO of the CVB wrote to Ludington City Council on March 2. The council will vote to give the CVB permission to hold the event during its regular meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m.

The dates of the bonfires are: Thursdays June 25, July 23 and Aug. 27, each from 8 to 10 p.m.

“As in the past, this is a free public event for locals and visitors to our community to enjoy our lakeshore and most of all, our sunset.”

During a meeting of the Ludington parks and recreation board held earlier in the month, Henderson answered questions about alcohol use on the beach. She stated that everyone in attendance last year followed the Stearns Park alcohol use rules.

Ludington City Council meets at city hall, 400 S. Harrison St.
