Coat drive at college to benefit COVE.

November 20, 2014

VICTORY TWP. — Winter weather is here, and the honors society at West Shore Community College is trying to make the winter a little warmer for those who are struggling.

Until Fri., Dec. 12, the college’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is holding a coat drive to support C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), Mason, Lake, and Oceana County’s domestic violence shelter and advocacy organization.  They provide emergency assistance, support groups, and other services for victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

“We know that the need in our community is great, but the generosity is also great,” said Phi Theta Kappa advisor Renee Snodgrass.  “The students I work with are really passionate about helping others in our community.  We want to collect so many coats that C.O.V.E. runs out of room for all of them!”

Any new or gently used winter apparel will be welcomed, including coats, hats, scarves, gloves, boots, and socks.

Items may be dropped off in boxes at the entrances to WSCC’s Technical Center, Arts & Sciences Building, or Schoenherr Campus Center.  A donation box will also be available at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts building at 107 S. Harrison Street, in downtown Ludington.

Those with questions can contact Renee Snodgrass at (231) 843-5869 or rsnodgrass@westshore.edu.
