FREE SOIL TWP. — Three people were injured in a two vehicle crash on U.S. 31 north of Free Soil Road about 5:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The crash involved a white Honda Odyssey minivan and a gray Dodge Journey SUV. According to emergency responders on scene, the crash occurred when the southbound Journey, driven by a Manistee woman, was attempted to make a left turn into Orchard Market. The Journey drove into the path of the northbound Honda, driven by a 72-year-old Illinois man.

The driver of the Dodge was the sole occupant of that vehicle. She was transported by Life EMS ambulance to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital with possible serious injuries, according to Grant Township Fire Chief Ron Melchert. The driver of the Honda and his male passenger were also transported by Life EMS to Ludington hospital. Their injuries did not appear to be life threatening, according to a Michigan State Police trooper on scene.

Firefighters from Free Soil/Meade Fire Department extinguished a fire in the engine compartment of the Dodge when they arrived on scene.

Responding to the scene were Michigan State Police, Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Life EMS, Grant Township Fire Dept. and Free Soil/Meade Fire Dept.
