us10_crash_091814BRANCH TWP. — Power along U.S. 10 in eastern Mason County was knocked out following a single vehicle crash just after 5 p.m. Thursday. The crash occurred when a 26-year-old Scottville man was driving westbound on U.S. 10 west of Tyndall Road. According to firefighters on the scene the man, driving a Pontiac Vibe, swerved to miss a turkey. His car went off the right shoulder, struck a power pole and also struck the turkey. The driver, the only occupant in the vehicle, was uninjured. The turkey did not survive.

Branch Township Fire Dept. was called to the scene for traffic control and to monitor the live power line until electric company workers arrived. The live electrical line did cause minor fires alongside the road. U.S. 10 between Tyndall and Landon roads was closed.

Michigan State Police and Consumers Energy also responded to the scene.
