LUDINGTON – In the wake of Grand Rapids based Spectrum Health taking over Memorial Medical Center, Muskegon’s Mercy Health Partners has announced its first primary care practice in Mason County.  The hospital system announced Monday the opening of Mercy Health Physician Partners Sable Point Family Care, located at 300 S. Rath Avenue, Suite 102, in Ludington.

Dr. John Cooney and physician assistant Brent Johnson are the new Sable Point providers. The practice will serve as a medical home for Ludington and surrounding areas. The practice provides services that include routine office visits, preventative care, chronic disease management, and any sick or urgent needs that might occur for newborns to the elderly.

Regarding the new practice, Dr. Cooney said, “We are providing a new medical home for the Community. Sable Point Family Care is a place where patients can come to expect exceptional, accessible and individually-focused care, ranging from with those who are well to those who have been hospitalized and need follow-up care.”

Cooney, who specializes in family medicine, earned his medical degree from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. Johnson earned his M.S. Physician Assistant degree from Central Michigan University. Both previously practiced in Hart.

Mercy Health plans to bring an additional provider to the Sable Point location this fall.
