Marie Sanborn

Marie Ann Sanborn, age 69 of Ludington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, June 8, 2014.  Marie was born on September 8, 1944 in North Judson, Indiana to Emil and Sophie (Skowronski) Wolfe.  She was baptized and made her first communion at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in North Judson.  At the age of 10, her family moved to Custer where her parents bought a farm.  Marie attended and graduated from Mason County Eastern High School with the class of 1962.  During her high school days, she worked at Tony’s Restaurant in Custer and later at Star Watch Case in Ludington where she met her future husband Edward Sanborn.  They married on June 26, 1965 and have celebrated 49 blessed years together.  They moved to the Hamlin area of Ludington, where they raised their family and were active members of Sacred Heart Church until it closed.  Marie held all the offices of the Altar Society at Sacred Heart.  They joined St. Simon’s Catholic Church in Ludington where Marie was a Catholic Daughter and held various offices of the court.  She was an active member and volunteer of St. Simon’s working at many sauerkraut suppers and attending several CDA conventions.  Marie’s greatest love was being a “stay at home Mom” raising her children.  She loved to give hugs and was a very huggable person.  She enjoyed traveling, taking tours, and cabin camping with her family.  She was very active with her children throughout their years of schooling and activities such as band, baseball, softball, 4-H, and many others.

Marie leaves behind her husband Edward, her children Ann Martin and her husband Tom, Karen Gezequel and her husband Michael, Rita Noble and her husband Scott, and Robert Sanborn and his wife Janet, her daughter-in-law Kim Sanborn, her beloved grandchildren Beverly, Carmen, Tomiann, and  Edward Martin, Stacy ,Sarah, Elizabeth, Eli, and William Gezequel, Abraham, Noah, David, Isaac, Joseph, Grace, and Charity Noble, Austin, and Brian Hansberger, Mitchell and Kristin Sanborn, Gabriel, and Rebecka Sanborn, her great-granddaughter Charlotte Newcomer, her mother-in-law S.L.E. Sanborn Wanderer, her sisters Dorothy Lange and her husband Bernie, Lori Dolley and her husband Terry, Marlene DiSanti, Darlene Lund and her husband Steve, her sister-in-law Lynn Wolfe, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and her aunt Irene Peterson.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents Emil Wolfe and Sophie Wolfe French, her son William Sanborn, and her brothers Emil and Eugene Wolfe.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Marie at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 12 at St. Simon’s Catholic Church in Ludington with Rev. Wayne Wheeler as celebrant.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.  Friends may meet with her family for a time of visitation on Wednesdayafternoon from 5:00 – 9:00 pm at the Stephens Funeral Home in Scottville, and on Thursday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the church.  A Prayer service will be held for Marie on Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm at the funeral home.

Marie’s family requests donations be made to the St. Simon Food Bank, or to Little Mary’s Hospitality House in Wellston in lieu of flowers please.
