SCOTTVILLE — A Scottville resident wants to legally have chickens in her yard rather than continue to violate the city’s ordinance. The resident, at 410 S. Main St., has been raising poultry in her yard for several years and was apparently not aware that Scottville city ordinance requires permission from city commission to raise non-domestic. City Manager Amy Williams said the city recently became aware of the chickens.

The resident has written a letter to the city commission asking its permission. She has three hens for eggs and 12 chickens that are supposed to be slaughtered for meat in July, according to Williams.

During its late May regular meeting, the commission granted a resident on Fifth Street permission to raise chickens. During Monday’s regular meeting it tabled the topic pending feedback from neighbors.
