UPDATED. PERE MARQUETTE TWP. — A 50-year-old Amber Township resident was struck by a vehicle while he was walking in the Shop-N-Save parking lot around 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The driver of the vehicle left the scene.

The male victim was taken to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital and later transported by Aeromed helicopter to a hospital in Grand Rapids.

Deputies from Mason County Sheriff’s Office and officers from Ludington Police Department located the vehicle in the 600 block of North Delia Street in the City of Ludington and arrested the driver within an hour after the incident. Sheriff Kim Cole said the male driver has been charged by Ludington Police Department with alcohol charges. He faces other charges from Mason County Sheriff’s Office. The victim was apparently walking across the traffic lane near the west side of the building when the vehicle came from the east.

The driver’s vehicle has been impounded and is being investigated by sheriff’s detectives.

Mason County Undersheriff Jody Hartley said he did not know the condition of the victim but said he was conscious when taken from the scene.
