AMBER TWP. — Two people received serious injuries during a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 10-31 east of Brye Road Sunday morning. The crash occurred just before 7:44 a.m. when a Chevrolet Malibu car, driven by a 21-year-old Ludington man, attempted to drive south from the Meijer parking lot to the Staples plaza parking lot. The Malibu pulled into traffic and was struck by a Jeep Liberty SUV driven by a 75-year-old Scottville man.

The driver of SUV and his 74-year-old wife/passenger received minor injuries and were attended to at the scene by emergency personnel. The driver of the Malibu and his 21-year-old female passenger, also from Ludington, received more serious injuries and were both transported to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital by Life EMS ambulance.

A Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputy on scene said that alcohol was not being ruled out as being a factor in the crash, regarding the driver of the Chevrolet Malibu.

Pere Marquette Twp. Fire Dept. and Ludington Fire Dept. also responded. Rescuers needed to use hydraulic tools to extricate the passenger of the Malibu.

Air temperature at the time of the crash was 4 degrees F.

The crash remains under investigation.
