GRANT TWP. — It took firefighters several extra minutes to arrive on the scene of a trailer fire late this morning, due to 911 receiving incorrect information from the initial caller. When they finally did get on scene, the mobile home was fully engulfed in flames. The fire happened in Forest Pines mobile home park at 1525 W. Countyline Road in Grant Township. However, the initial caller to 911 said it was at 2025 E. Countyline Road, which is several miles to the east of that location in Meade Township.

Mason-Oceana 911 always dispatches two fire departments automatically for house fires. As a result, both Free Soil/Meade and Grant fire departments were alerted. However, they were all en-route to the wrong location. Within a few minutes 911 had sent out a second page to the fire departments, correcting the information, based on other calls about the fire.

The single wide mobile home was fully engulfed when MCP arrived, moments after the first fire units arrived on the scene. It appears everyone living in the home was able to get out safely.

We will have more information as it becomes available.
