Phone systems down again this morning

October 15, 2013

UPDATED at 9:57 a.m.: Full service restored at 911.

Many area residents and businesses are reporting that their phone systems are down again this morning. Last night Frontier Communications reported it had been upgrading its system when certain junctions went out. Phil Truan of Frontier said Monday night that the systems should have been restored.

Many places are without phone and Internet service right now.

Reports came in Monday night that land lines were having issues from Grant Township to Riverton Township. West Shore Community College sent an email to employees around 8:30 p.m. reporting the outage. Many MCP readers posted on www.Facebook.com/MasonCountyPress that they personally were experiencing issues or that retailers were having troubles with their phone and credit card systems.

Mason-Oceana 911 Director Ray Hasil has reported that circuits going into 911 are down but calls are being re-routed to other dispatch centers. Testing is currently being done to assure emergency calls are answered, Hasil said.

“Our Internet and non-emergency lines were all working fine and the problem was limited to our 911 call circuits,” Hasil said about the situation Monday night.
