LUDINGTON — Drew H. Dostal has been named the new vice president of operations at Memorial Medical Center in Ludington, hospital CEO Mark Vipperman announced. Dostal, of Scottville, was promoted from senior director of surgical & ambulatory services.

Vipperman noted that Dostal has earned a series of promotions since joining MMC as a staff nurse in 2007. He advanced to assistant director, then director, of surgical services. Earlier this year his portfolio was expanded again, to include responsibility for the hospital’s growing group of employed physicians, including MMC’s satellite operation in Hart.

Earlier in his career he worked for a time in the hospital emergency department, then served 12 years as an orthopedic assistant in a physician practice before rejoining MMC.

Drew holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in business administration from Ferris State University; he also earned a project management certificate from the university. Later this year he plans to take the exam to become a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the paramount credential for hospital leaders.

“Drew has excelled at every level in our organization and will be a valuable asset as we face the operational challenges and opportunities into the future,” said Vipperman.

Dostal assumes the operational responsibilities of MMC’s long-serving senior vice president and chief operating officer, Tim Heinrich, who has announced his intention to retire from that position on October 1. However, Heinrich will stay at the hospital through the completion of the renovation phase of the current expansion project, which he has overseen since it began. He is also known for his service on the Ludington Area Schools Board of Education.
