County campground welcome center ceremony

September 3, 2013

PERE MARQUETTE TWP. — The Mason County Board of Commissioners and the Mason County Parks and Recreation Commission governing board are inviting the citizens of Mason County to a dedication ceremony for the new Welcome Center at the Mason County Campground. The ceremony for the Center is scheduled at 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 5906 W. Chauvez Road, Ludington.

Mason County received 60% of the funding, up to $129,600, for the Mason County Campground Entrance Improvements through a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Development Project Grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The project included a new Welcome Center, a new concrete walk, paving of the campground entrance, a new sign, utility connections, site preparations, site amenities, site restoration, and seeding.

Mason County has partnered with Consumers Energy for over 30 years to provide campground and day use park facilities at Consumers Energy’s Ludington Pumped Storage Project site.

The general public is invited to tour the Welcome Center after the dedication ceremony until 6 p.m.
