SCOTTVILLE – The Scottville Clown Band Shell Tuesday night concert series is being extended this year. The season will begin a few weeks early and continue until the Tuesday before Harvest Festival. Traditionally the season began the first week of June and ended the last week of August.

The band shell will also host free Friday night movie nights later in the summer.

The Tuesday concert series will feature a variety of entertainment for all ages and will be held in conjunction with the Scottville Farmers’ Market. The market, located in the west parking lot, will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. while the concerts begin at 7 p.m.

“This year’s season has a mix of some traditional band shell acts and some new faces,” said Rob Alway, co-chair. The band shell committee is really trying to make an effort to bring families into Scottville and we think this year’s line-up will accomplish that goal.”

The Mason County Central High School Jazz Band will kick off the series on May 21. The series will conclude on Sept. 10 with Joe Clark and the Fosters.

The band shell will also host free Friday movie nights this summer. The dates are not yet confirmed, Alway said, but they will most likely be towards the end of July and the beginning of August.

“We know the Movies in the Park in Ludington have been very successful and we wanted to provide a similar venue here in Scottville,” co-chair Heather Landis said.

Just like the Tuesday night concerts, the Friday night movies will feature the Scottville Optimist popcorn wagon.

The band shell committee is still seeking donations for this year’s season. Donations help offset maintenance of the shell, pay for promotion of concerts, reimburse the musicians’ expenses and help pay for expenses of the movies. Donations are tax deductible and may be sent to Scottville Clown Band, 405 N. Main St., Scottville, MI 49454.
