AMBER TWP. — Pere Marquette Fire Department quickly extinguished a grass fire this afternoon behind a residence on West Conrad Road.

The fire burned about 3 acres along power lines. Property owner Joe Polcin said he had been tending to a burning barrel and watched it burned out. He said he didn’t know if that what the cause. He said he was surprised by how quickly the fire had spread.

Assistant Fire Chief Ross Kissel said he was impressed by how quickly the firefighters were able to knock down the fire.

“The guys did a nice job out there. They hit the parameter quickly and that kept it from spreading.”

Kissel said people burning need to always attend their fires and to use additional caution this time if year.
