Baby Kate’s grandmother sentenced for illegal credit card use

LUDINGTON — April Lynn Lange was sentenced today in 51st Circuit Court for tampering with a financial transaction device. Lange is the grandmother of Katherine “Baby Kate” Phillips and mother of Ariel Courtland.

The charges against the 38-year-old Ludington resident stemmed from using stolen credit cards to purchase thousands of dollars of items from local retail outlets including Wal-Mart, Meijer and Wesco.

Lange and Kayla Marie Parrish, 20 of Ludington, were arrested on Nov. 25, 2012 by Ludington Police Department.

Both defendants have been sentenced by Judge Richard Cooper to nine months in jail, serving six months up front and the remainder at the court’s discretion. They both have also been ordered to 12 months probation and must pay restitution and fines.

According to testimony today, Lange returned most of the stolen items. Courtland was in the courtroom today.
