SHERMAN TWP. — Firefighters from Fountain Area Fire Dept. extinguished a fire in a house this afternoon.

The department was called to 2606 E. Fountain Rd. around 12:30 p.m. Chief Roger Berndt said a passerby noticed smoke coming from the house.

The residents, Andrew and Linda Johnson, were not home, officials were attempting to contact them as of posting.

Berndt said firefighters were able to contain the fire by removing siding and cutting a hole in the house. He said the likely cause was from a wood pellet stove.

It seems like I have noticed more news than normal coming out of Sherman Twp lately. Great job Fountain Fire Dept! I’m glad they were able to save the house.
