Scottville working on its goals — but not the way it was reported

February 7, 2013

SCOTTVILLE — The Scottville City Commission is not expected to take action on the city’s future goals, despite what has been reported in another news medium.

Last month city commissioners, Main Street committee members and planning commissioners were asked to look at the city’s master plan and select their top three to five goals from that plan. Ultimately those goals will be looked at by the planning commission with recommendations to the city commission.

A local newspaper reported that the goals were being set by the commissioners and that the commission would review those goals at its next meeting later this month.

City Manager Amy Williams said this is not the case and the topic was never even discussed at Monday’s meeting. A reminder to the commissioners to look at the goals was sent out in Williams’ pre-meeting notes. Some of the commissioners turned in the results to Williams, she said, but they did not necessarily reflect the direction the city is heading at this time.

Williams said she received several phone calls from residents saying they were excited about the goal setting. She said she was glad to hear it but the praise was a little premature.

The planning commission is expected to review the goals at its March meeting.
