Obit

Marshall A. Stoevsand, aged 84 of Walhalla, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Willowbrook Care Home in Scottville.  Marshall was born on April 30, 1928 in Eden Township to Armen and Emily (Kase) Stoevsand, and married Illah Lamrock on October 1, 1950.  They celebrated 47 years together before Illah preceded him in death in 1997.  Marshall was also preceded in death by his parents.

Marshall and his father worked as loggers throughout the Mason County area for many years before Marshall worked at Barton’s Service Station in Walhalla, and for C.W. Smith as a mechanic.  In 1968, he began working for Laman’s Asphalt and became a member of the Operators Engineering Local 324, retiring from Reith-Riley after 20 years of service.  He loved to spend time hunting, fishing, and working on small engines, but his greatest joy was in the seat of his “Orange Blossom Special” dump truck or his road grater.  Weekends were always reserved for get-togethers with family and friends.

Marshall will be greatly missed by his daughters Wanda (Brian) Nelson of Walhalla, and Karen (Archie) Devereaux of Haines City, FL, his son Glen (Barbara) Stoevsand of Walhalla, his granddaughters Sadie Nash of Grand Rapids, Amanda (Josh) Rahn of Holland, and Melissa Stoevsand of Columbus, OH.

A Memorial Service will be held for Marshall at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 1, at the Stephens Funeral Home in Scottville.  Burial will take place later in the spring at Riverside Cemetery in Custer.  Friends may meet with his family for a time of visitation on Friday from Noon until time of services at the funeral home.  Those who wish to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider Hospice of Michigan – Mason County.  Please visit Marshall’s personal memory page atwww.stephensfuneralhome.net to read his Life Story, sign his guestbook, or to leave a memory of Marshall for his family.
