PERE MARQUETTE TWP. — For the second year Grand Valley Co-op Credit Union has sponsored its Giving Tree program benefitting the Mason County Grandparents Raising Grandchildren/Kinship Care Support Goup.

“We started the program Christmas 2011 as a small way to help ease the financial burden the support group members face in taking on the care of their young relatives,” said Michelle Soneral from Grand Valley. “The families provide a Christmas wish list which we put as an ornament on the Giving Tree. The donors choose an ornament and purchase the wish.

“This year we had wishes varying from socks and sleepers for an 8-month-old baby all the way to toys, learning pads and gift cards for the older children and teenagers. Through the generosity of others a total of 85 items were provided as gifts this year for nine children between the ages of 8 months and 16 years. We are already planning for next year and hoping we can touch even more families.”
