Irish fiddler at West Shore Saturday

March 8, 2012

VICTORY TWP. — The world’s greatest Irish fiddler Kevin Burke and his American guitar playing mate Cal Scott will usher in area St. Patrick’s Day celebrations on Sat., March 10, at 7:30 p.m. in West Shore Community College’s Center Stage Theater.

Burke is the undisputed master of the Irish fiddle and his guitar accompanist is equally steeped in the music of Ireland.

The “Village Voice” calls Kevin Burke “the greatest living Irish fiddler.” “Burke’s fiddling is one of the high spots of the current Irish musical scene,” writes “The Irish Times.”

Scott is also a remarkable musician whose professional credentials span from traditional to bluegrass to jazz and everything in between. He plays guitar, but also mandolin and brass, and is a member of the 8-piece folk ensemble The Trail Band.

He has also composed dozens of scores for films and PBS documentaries, national parks and museums.

Tickets for the concert may be purchased or reserved at the WSCC Box Office, or by calling 843-5507.
