BIG RAPIDS — Manistee Varsity Co-op Hockey team traveled to Big Rapids Friday to take on the Big Rapids Cardinals.  The Manistee Co-op team has players from Manistee, Ludington, Mason County Central, Hart and Shelby High Schools.

Manistee played a very strong first period with just one penalty and scoring their first and only goal of the game Sam Lipps (MCC) scored assisted with a nice give and go by Chad Morang (Manistee). Goalie Austin Wilson (Ludington) was strong in net stopping 8 of 9 shots.  The score after 1 period was tied 1 to 1.

The Cardinals would score a shorthanded goal in the second period to go ahead of the Chippewas. The Chippewas had scoring opportunities with power plays, even a 5 on 3 and could not score.  The second and third period was a battle between the two teams with the Cardinals coming out on top with the win and final score 2 to 1.  Wilson went on to make 28 more saves in the final 2 periods.  The Chippewas pulled the goalies in the last 45 seconds for a man advantage but came up short.

The Chippewas play at home ice at West Shore Community College Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 6:30 vs. Muskegon Reeths Puffer.
