PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Flipstar Gymnastics Center, 5905 W. US 10, recently had 17 gymnasts travel to the Chicago area to compete in the Midwest Regional Championship meet with some of the best gymnasts from eight states. Although 45 gymnasts qualify for the meet, due to timing and location, only 17 were able to make the competition.
The 17 Flipstar gymnasts represented Flipstar and Michigan well earning 61 regional championship medals with 25 of them being Top-3 podium medals.
Since the event was a regional championship, there were no team placement awards. “Regional Team” awards were earned by gymnasts having a top score out of all competitors of their level, regardless of age.
“We had one gymnast at each level earn this prestigious ‘Regional Team’ honor,” said Coach Amy Rohrbach, co-owner of Flipstar Gymnastics. The honor was earned by Nina Frick at the Xcel Platinum level, Abby Dodson at the Xcel Gold level, Oriana Hill at the Xcel Silver level and Davony Glenn at the Xcel Bronze level.

Olivia Machen earned two podium medals with third place on both uneven bars and floor exercise. She also earned a fifth place all-around medal. “We couldn’t be more proud of these girls for all of their hard work this season,” Rohrbach said. “For all of them to bring home at least two regional medals against such tough competition is amazing. Also, most of them were competing at their current level for the first year and for many this was their first regional meet.
“They walked into the meet with lots of nerves, but with support from each other through the nervousness and a few uncharacteristic mistakes, they all left with multiple medals, a great experience and lots of smiles. They are now looking forward to summer training which brings a break from routines and lots of new and upgraded skill work.
“We would like to thank our wonderful community for all of the support this gymnastics season. We appreciate everything from following us on Facebook (FlipstarLudington) to purchasing from our fundraiser to attending our meets. Your support means everything.”
